Vietnamese Meatballs Recipe

Better than the frozen store bought meatballs. Super easy to make.

  • 1 pound of lean ground beef or pork
  • 1 cup of red onion or shallot chopped
  • 1/3 cup of cilantro chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger grated
  • 1/2 tbsp honey
  • 1 Thai chili chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp of canola or vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds and green onion for garnish if you want

For Dipping Sauce

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 Thai chili chopped (optional)
  1. Combine all ingredients using food processor. I didn’t have a food processor so I put it in a bowl and used an immersion hand blender
  2. Put a little oil in your hands and scoop up about a tablespoon of mixture and roll into meatball. I place the meatballs on a lightly oiled plate so it doesn’t stick.
  3. In a pan over medium high heat, add oil and the meatballs. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Turn meatballs over and cook for another 5 minutes or until meatballs are golden brown
  4. Mix ingredients for dipping sauce in a bowl and serve together with meatballs. Pour over or use as dipping sauce.
  5. You can freeze your extra uncooked meatballs if needed.
